Chicago 2009: Ford Fusion Hybrid Pace Car

Last November, a hybrid vehicle paced a NASCAR Sprint Cup event for the first time ever. That car was a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, and the race was the last of the season at Homestead-Miami Speedway. We managed to locate the exact car that was used as the pace car up until the green flag dropped here on the show floor in Chicago. Under the skin, this car is exactly the same as any other 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. That skin, though, makes this particular hybrid stand out from the crowd. Ford had a pretty good day at that race last year, as it was won by Carl Edwards in a NASCAR-spec Ford Fusion race car. Sure, the two vehicles share absolutely zero components besides the badge on the grille, but we're sure Ford was happy to have its new Fusion sedan bookend the event.

Hybrid Cars -- Pros and Cons

January 19th, 2006 --> Mercedes Hyper concept cutaway showing major components.
If you listen to the makers, hybrid cars are the best invention since sliced bread. While there are many reasons to buy a hybrid car, including a new tax incentive for US owners, it helps to have a good understanding of how they work. This article explores the myths, benefits and drawbacks of owning one of these new “green” vehicles.

window.google_render_ad();
First off: What is a hybrid car? Basically, it’s a normal, fuel efficient car that has two motors - an electric motor and a gasoline powered motor. It also has a special system to capture braking energy to store in an onboard battery.
Why a hybrid? Why not a straight gas or electric powered car? After all, one of the basic rules of science is the more complex the system - two motors instead on one - the more often it will break down. This is the main reason many boat owners prefer one motor instead of the “double trouble” of two - despite the obvious safety advantages. This is a hard question and, in the minds of some experts, not fully answered.

Gold plated Toyota Camry

Gold plated cars are not something new. Every once in a while we get to see one of these showing up, reminding us that there are a lot of people out there that got nothing better to do with their money than extremely pimping up a car. This 24k gold plated Toyota Camry is no exception. Of course, as you probably imagine, the owner comes from Dubai and the car is for sale for 135,000 AED ($36,800 or €23,700). However, one thing bothers me. If you want to show off, why in the world would you choose a Toyota Camry? Weird.

Epitome of bad taste: Arabian Toyota Landcruiser

They say money can’t buy good taste, but this Toyota Landcruiser is the embodiment of bad taste. I agree that people want to be unique, to express their own personality through the objects that they own but the lenght some people go to make their cars unique, to know that there isn’t any car like their’s on the road is sometimes pretty scary. This car, which seems to be licensed to one of the United Arab Emirates, can easily be mistaken for an alien vehicle or one from the future, a future i won’t like to live in though.
